This is a very important proposal of a brazilian deputy.
He wants to distribute to elementary schools “guidebooks that teach boys to only like woman” x_x … come on, is liking women so hard that you even need a guidebook?
Jeez… Cons. are so pathetic!

About a third of the passengers killed on the Malaysian flight that was shot down yesterday were on their way to an international AIDS conference. They were scientists, researchers and activists, some of whom have already changed and saved thousands of lives with their work.
Bryan Fischer - the head of the American Family Association - is mad that Barack Obama acknowledged that. Here’s what Obama said (which, no, YOU’RE tearing up reading it!)

Let me close by making one additional comment. On board Malaysian Airlines Flight MH-17 there were apparently near 100 researchers and advocates traveling to an international conference in Australia dedicated to combating AIDS/HIV. These were men and women who had dedicated their own lives to saving the lives of others, and they were taken from us in a senseless act of violence.
In this world today we shouldn’t forget that in the midst of conflict and killing, there are people like these, people who are focused on what can be built rather than what can be destroyed, people who are focused on how they can help people that they’ve never met, people that define themselves not by what makes them different from other people but by the humanity that we hold in common. It’s important for us to lift them up and to affirm their lives. And it’s time for us to heed their example.
The United States of America is going to continue to stand for the basic principle that people have the right to live as they choose, that nations have the right to determine their own destiny, and that when terrible events like this occur, the international community stands on the side of justice and on the side of truth.

Wonkette did a roundup of some of the medical advancements the people on that plane helped create, including antiretrovirals to reduce mother-child spread of HIV/AIDS and access to treatment in developing nations. And of course, they’ve affected the lives of millions of gay men who have contracted the disease. Who are just as worthy of medical care as anyone else. Who were ignored by Reagan when the HIV outbreak first happened, which actually made the disease spread farther and faster before anyone knew how it was transmitted. Who are motherfucking human beings, much to the dismay of the American Family Association.
Obviously we all knew the AFA was a piece of shit. In case you were wondering - since it’s been a while since we heard from them, what with same-sex marriage getting legalized in a new state every week or so - in case you were wondering whether they were still homophobic pieces of shit, yes, yes they are.

What a disgusting air thief.

This is Brazil. Enjoy the World Cup but be conscious and not ignorant.

???

I wonder what is the connection between the Telerj eviction with the world cup anyway?

The eviction happenned because people were living in a building that was abandoned 8 years ago that belongs to some sort of overpowered telecommunication company. Btw, the building was sold in the privatization of Brazilian telecommunications in 1998 to this company which was called TELEMAR back then (today it’s Oi).

I know it’s a violation of human rights and I know someting should be done about it because a society in which corporations are more important than humans is one of the most terrifying things capitalism can provide (and we ARE living in this world). But to spread misinformation isn’t going to help a thing… and you people should watch out when you share things that aren’t connected at all.

Anyway, there’s something happenning in brazil today and it is an attempt to delegitimize the world cup and whatever else the actual federal government does. We see everyday several attempts to blame the federal government of issues that were supposed to be from state or municipal jurisdiction. More than that there are also many news unrelated to the world cup or to the actual goverment that are spread like this one.  Why? Because we have a government that is NOT pleasing the brazilian elite, which also includes the media itself.

The Zapatista Army of National Liberation (Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional, EZLN) is a revolutionary group based in Chiapas, Mexico. The Zapatistas’ base is made up of mostly rural indigenous people but has supporters across the country and world. Their main spokesperson is Subcomandante Marcos. The EZLN rejects and defies political classification, with a strong culture emphasizing the importance of indigenous Mayan beliefs. The EZLN can be seen as an anti-neoliberal social movement that seeks indigenous control over local resources, especially land. They highlight the struggle of “all the exploited and dispossessed”, and for this reason support the plight of many people of color around the world. A popular Zapatista slogan is: “For everyone, everything. For us, nothing” (Para todos todo, para nosotros nada).

"Never in history has violence been initiated by the oppressed. How could they be the initiators, if they themselves are the result of violence? How could they be the sponsors of something whose objective inauguration called forth their existence as oppressed? There would be no oppressed had there been no prior situation of violence to establish their subjugation. Violence is initiated by those who oppress, who exploit, who fail to recognise others as persons - not by those who are oppressed, exploited and unrecognised."

Operation Brother Sam

Declassified transcripts of communications between Lincoln Gordon and the US government show that, predicting an all-out civil war, and with the opportunity to get rid of a left wing government in Brazil, Johnson authorized logistical materials to be in place and a US Navy fleet led by an aircraft carrier to support the coup against Goulart.

These included ammunition, motor oil, gasoline, aviation gasoline and other materials to help in a potential civil war in US Navy tankers sailing from Aruba. About 110 tons of ammunition and CS gas were made ready in New Jersey for a potential airlift to Viracopos Airport in Campinas.

Potential support was also made available in the form of an “aircraft carrier (USS Forrestal) and two guided missile destroyers (expected arrive in area by April 10), (and) four destroyers”, which sailed to Brazil under the guise of a military exercise.
